The Pacific Sea Cucumber Harvesters Association
PSCHA is a non-profit society, incorporated in 1992 by the 85 commercial licence holders. It does not buy or sell sea cucumbers but represents the licence holders and fishermen in most matters related to a safe and well managed fishery. PSCHA works closely with the Department of Fisheries (DFO) management and science departments, a third party monitoring company and First Nations to insure we have a safe, sustainable and science based fishery.
Since 1997 PSCHA has been involved in conducting as well as funding an extensive survey and research program dedicated to making sure the commercial harvest is biologically based. Together with DFO, PSCHA has now surveyed a large portion of the BC coast and conducted numerous experiments to provide the scientific data that is needed to make sure the commercial harvest is science based and conservative.PSCHA works closely with a third party monitoring company (D&D Pacific Fisheries Ltd.) to make sure all harvesting is recorded and conducted in accordance with the DFO management plan.
